2014 junior kata competition

Almost 100 juniors had an early start last Sunday, 5 October for the IKKU Junior Kata competition. This was an increase in numbers on last year's event which was also hosted by our Portmarnock Club.

Up first were the competitors from Ripples Larkhill supported by Club instructor, Brian Carroll. The juniors really showed the results of all their hard training and put in some excellent kata performances. Winners of the categories were Alex Stojanovic, Jacob Jameson and Dillon McQuirk.

Not to be outdone there was strong competition in the boys and girls teenage sections. There were some proud officials on the day when Niamh Yourell and Sinead Collier placed first and second respectively in the Girls aged 14+ event. The Boys aged 13+ section was a particularly tough category with the eventual winner Ciaran McGannon giving a very focused performance throughout the section.

Brothers Ross and Ronan Kearney improved again on last year taking 1st place in the Boys 13+ and 9-10 categories respectively. While Jade Graham was on top form following her 2013 title by again winning her section, the Girls aged 9-10 event. All of the judges agreed that there were outstanding katas on the day by the young competitors so the future is looking bright.
